Here’s a novel idea: a VIP event smack-dab in the middle of L.A.’s awards season where no one is handing out prizes. Maybe that’s why stars like Kate Bosworth, Ginnifer Goodwin, Rachel Griffiths, and Milla Jovovich were in such good spirits at the party Calvin Klein Collection’s Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli threw last night to celebrate L.A. Arts Month. Given the occasion, there was lots of art on display, including an installation, Pattern Folds, by Jean Shin, that incorporated the fabrics Costa uses in his runway show. It made for a nice backdrop for Penélope Cruz, who, like most of the A-listers in attendance, was dressed in a look by the designer.
“I wake up every morning and think about what has happened in Haiti, and what we need to do. I can’t go anywhere and not talk about it,” Cruz told us, plugging her friend the director Paul Haggis’ charity, Artists for Peace and Justice. “But I don’t want to sound too heavy tonight. I love Francisco and what he’s doing for Calvin Klein. He’s such a kind man, and so much fun.” With his next collection scheduled to hit the catwalk in exactly three weeks, Costa couldn’t have too much of that on this trip. “I arrived today, and I’m here for less than 24 hours, which is hard for me,” the designer cried. “I’m from Brazil. Give me beaches and sunshine!”

Actor Rip Torn was arrested on Friday night for allegedly breaking into a Connecticut bank intoxicated … and armed with a loaded revolver, obviously.
Torn allegedly forced his way inside the Litchfield Bancorp building, setting off an alarm, state police from the Troop B barracks in North Canaan said.
When the police responded to the alarm around 9:40 p.m. they found Torn “with a loaded revolver and was highly intoxicated,” according to officials.
The actor, 78, was taken into custody without incident, and is being held there on a $100,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Authorities say Rip will be charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief. Who does this guy think he is, DMX?
He had two previous drunken driven charges against him in New York. He was acquitted by a jury in a 2004 case and, in a second drunk driving case (see above), he pleaded guilty in 2007 to a lesser charge of being ability impaired.
Torn, a resident of Salisbury, Conn., is an award-winning actor in film and theater with more than 50 years of work under his belt. Recently, he has appeared in Dodgeball, August, Happy Tears, The Golden Boys and even TV’s 30 Rock.

With the Couture shows all wrapped up last night, it was time to—what else?—party. First in line was a fête for Swarovski’s newest Crystallized collaboration at the Pozzo di Borgo hotel in the Seventh. This year, the Austria-based company invited designers to collaborate on little black dresses to be auctioned off at Phillips de Pury in September, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society and France’s La Ligue Contre le Cancer. “We thought now was the time to focus on a fashion basic,” Swarovski’s Markus Lampe said as he showed off bedazzled L.B.D.s from labels such as Vivienne Westwood, Givenchy, Missoni, and many more. Inglourious Basterds‘ Mélanie Laurent said if she had to pick one, it would be the Lanvin sheath. “But I am French,” she explained, “so maybe I’m biased.”
On the other side of the Seine, at Valentino’s Place Vendôme headquarters, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli toasted their latest collection amid an impressive array of centuries-old chandeliers, fresco paintings, and gilded paneling. “Yes, we are very lucky,” Piccioli acknowledged, with Natalia Vodianova on one arm. “This space, our show, and now tonight have all been a dream come true for us. But enough talk of that, let’s dance!” With Julio Santo Domingo on the decks, it didn’t take much coaxing to get the chicest girls—Charlotte Casiraghi, Shala Monroque, and Coco Brandolini included—up on their feet.
Across the square at the Ritz, Kate Moss was celebrating her post as Longchamp’s newest handbag designer with a dance party of her own, complete with a DJ set by the Queens of Noize. But despite the rowdy performance, all eyes were on the supermodel and her entourage. At the stroke of midnight, Moss waltzed out, followed by her boyfriend, Jamie Hince, and a few girlfriends. By the time she reached the back door, it was a full-on Moss migration, with dozens of people prepared to follow her seemingly anywhere. Always ready with a one-liner, she asked with a smirk, “All this fuss? For a bag lady?”
The Dancing With the Stars co-host has announced her resignation from the show. She won’t return for the its tenth season, which kicks off on March 22.
“[Dancing with the Stars] could not have been more of a dream job,” she said. “I loved every single second of it and I’ve made lifelong friends at the show.”
So, why is she leaving? Harris majored in journalism at Northwestern University (go Wildcats!) and wants to focus on other projects, such as her correspondent duties at The Insider.
“I interned at Entertainment Tonight 15 years ago, the summer after my sophomore year at Northwestern and I dreamed of working in the same space as hosts Mary Hart and Mark Steines and now I’m living that dream,” Harris said.

Kelly Osbourne is just teeing off on celebrities this week. Monday, she squared off with Tila Tequila, who she likened to a fart: amusing, but ultimately disgusting.
Her latest target? Heidi Montag.
After seeing what The Hills star did to herself with all that plastic surgery, Kelly decided to throw her two cents in, unsolicited of course, about Heidi’s new look.
While Osbourne may be annoying and begging for attention herself by chiming in, she’s certainly not wrong when it comes to her assessment of Montag …
“She was so pretty before. Now she looks like a Barbie doll. I feel sorry for Heidi, she’s obviously insecure. It’s the surgeon who should be ashamed – he should be struck off for giving her so much work when she clearly didn’t need it.”

We have to say, the idea that Heidi had countless cosmetic surgeries because she is unhappy may be only half the story. It was also a key career move!
That’s according to the surgeon who ransacked Heidi Montag’s face. He even admits he could never go through with what Heidi wanted to have done.
Neither could we. How many other 23-year-olds do you know who transform like she has? You couldn’t pick old Heidi out of a police lineup at this point.
The former Mr. Britney Spears, a.k.a. Kevin Federline, opened up to Access Hollywood about his battle with depression, weight gain and his world-famous ex.
K-Fed will next a contestant on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp. He says rumors that he gained weight to secure a spot on the weight loss show are false.
“They called me and they asked me if I wanted to do it and I had 24 hours to decide because the show started taping the day after that weekend,” he said.
“It just couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Married to Britney Spears for two years, Kevin said depression played a part in his overeating. “Once you’re depressed, you don’t feel like doing anything,” he said.
“You’re kind of discouraged about yourself and then the weight gain too, or that makes me more depressed. I mean, it’s a combination of all of those things.”
K-OVERFEDis actually looking slimmer these days.
Kevin admitted that his divorce from Spears in 2006 played a part in his depression. Asked if he is at a place where he can be friends with Britney, he said yes.
“Yeah, I mean, I think as time goes on, it keeps getting better and better and better. I mean, I’m really happy the way that my life is going right now, I really am. I think, you know, I have come a long way. All of us have. The whole family.”
“It’s gotten so much better from where we were,” he added. “I’m in the best possible scenario right now and I’m really happy for her. I’m very happy for her.”
Kevin Federline also commented that he can see himself getting married again in the future, and there could be more kids in his future … maybe.
“I could see that,” he said. “I’ll let the young ones grow up first and we’ll see.”
